Transport goes "Green" at Skirmish Paintball Games Crawley, Surrey & Kent!
All businesses in this day and age are looking at ways to lower their carbon footprint - always a challenge in the leisure industry - but the pioneering people at Skirmish Paintball Games Crawley, Surrey & Kent came up with a novel aproach.
Dan Chase, owner and manager at Bullswood Crawley said "We were looking into new company transport when a friend suggested an old Landrover would be perfect, so we researched the net and soon found that these vehicles score twice on reducing your carbon footprint. Firstly, if looked after, they can go on forever - reducing their imbedded energy as you don`t need to scrap them after 10 years. Secondly, if you pick the right model, they run really well on Vegetable Oil which is well known to be almost carbon neutral (carbon that escapes as part of the combustion process is absorbed by the next crop)"
Rather than trying used chip fat, Dan has stuck to fresh vegetable oil "I thought about using used oil but upon further investigation it was clear that used oil requires a lot of work before it can be confidently used, where as fresh oil which I purchase from Bookers works a treat!".
Another question that many peolpe have is one of legality "the law changed about 16 months ago and it allows you to use up to 2500 litres of oil per year before any tax is due - thats a lot of oil!"
Does it really smell of chip fat - oh yes!
